Rodent Control in Wallace, ID
Wallace is a historic town of brick and stone buildings in a tight canyon, and that construction is both the charm and the problem.
Around Wallace
Wallace, the county seat of Shoshone County, was founded in 1884 alongside the South Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River and what is now Interstate 90, and the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes rail trail passes through. The district has produced more than 1.2 billion ounces of silver, which earned the town the title “Silver Capital of the World”. The 1997 film Dante’s Peak was shot here, with a hill southeast of town digitally made into a volcano.
The old Northern Pacific depot was moved 300 feet in 1986 to save it from the freeway, and it is now the Northern Pacific Railroad Depot Museum on 6th St. The Wallace District Mining Museum is on Bank St, the Sierra Silver Mine Tour on Cedar St, and the Sixth Street Theatre & Melodrama on 6th St. In 2004 the mayor proclaimed a manhole cover on 6th St the Center of the Universe, and the town marks the day every September.
What makes Wallace different
Much of the downtown is late nineteenth and early twentieth century masonry, with shared walls, basements that connect further than anyone expects, and a century of alterations cut through brick and stone. Mortar that old is soft, and a gap in a mortar joint is a door. Exclusion in these buildings is slower and more careful than on a modern house - you cannot simply cut in a steel panel where a historic facade is - so it is a matter of finding every opening and closing it in a way that both holds and belongs there. The canyon walls put timber directly behind the buildings, and the shared-wall construction means a problem next door is very often about to be a problem here too.

Wallace is covered by our Coeur d’Alene team. For a specific appointment window, call and ask - we would rather give you a real time than a slogan, particularly in winter when the driving decides the schedule.
